Open-Air Museum 7 Mühlen The "7 Mühlen" at Mühlbachl are unique in the state of Salzburg in their kind. Threatened by decay, this landscape-defining mill complex was saved by the municipality of Pfarrwerfen and the Federal Monuments Office. The six preserved Gmach mills now reflect the history of the rural area and its way of life. According to estimates, the use of the Mühlbachl by water mills already took place in the Middle Ages. For centuries, the milling rights significantly contributed to the self-sufficiency of local farmers. Due to the decline in grain cultivation in the mountain regions and the advent of electric power, the mills lost their importance.
