Franziskanerkloster und Franziskanerkirche

The mighty complex of the Telfs monastery is a simple, functional building of Franciscan simplicity. The monastery was built between 1703 and 1706, and the monastery church Maria Empfängnis (Immaculate Conception) between 1704 and 1706. It is attached to the west of the monastery and oriented to the north. The nave has a steep gabled roof with a small bell tower. On the gable of the south facade is a mosaic of Mary by Josef Pfefferle (1903/04). Inside the church, the side chapel, which projects from the nave, is striking on the left. The altarpiece from 1710 shows the patron saint of the church, Maria Immaculata, surrounded by four Franciscan saints symbolizing the four then-known continents. On the wall to the right is the Three Kings fresco, which was removed from the Sparkassenhaus on Untermarktstraße during the most recent renovation and transferred to the monastery church. Inside the monastery complex (unfortunately not accessible) there is a cloister and a spacious garden with a garden house adorned with a fresco cycle depicting the life of Saint Francis. The monastery, originally designed for a much larger number, currently houses only a few friars. To the right of the forecourt of the monastery church is the war memorial. It consists of a group of figures created by Andreas Einberger and bronze plaques listing the names of the fallen from Telfs from both World Wars and earlier wars.
