Forstverwaltung

The imposing house was built in 1838/39 as another office building of the Salt Office in addition to the Kammerhof complex, as the existing premises there were no longer sufficient. At that time, it was simply called Salzamtshaus. From early 1850, it housed the "k. k. Salinen- und Forstdirektion für das Kronland Österreich ob der Enns" (Imperial-Royal Saltworks and Forestry Directorate for the Crown Land of Upper Austria), and from 1876 to 1925 the "k. k. Forst- und Domänendirektion Gmunden" (Imperial-Royal Forestry and Domain Directorate Gmunden). After the dissolution of the Forestry and Domain Directorate, the Salzkammergut forests were placed under the newly established General Directorate of the Austrian Federal Forests in 1926. The office was now officially called Bundesforstdirektion (Federal Forestry Directorate). Among the population, the terms Forstdirektion and simply Forstamt (Forestry Office) were used. After the dissolution of the Gmunden location, the building was sold in 2010 to Klosterplatz Verwaltungs-GmbH & Co. KG (Ohlsdorf). In 2013, Raiffeisenbank Salzkammergut eGen acquired the property. Today, the renovated building, along with a modern extension, bears the name "haus salzkammergut" (www.haussalzkammergut.at). It houses premises of Raiffeisenbank Salzkammergut, the Café & Restaurant "das forst". A part of the now greatly enlarged complex is also rented or leased.
