Regarding its origin: The legend tells that Florianus, former head of office in Lauriacum, was thrown from the Enns bridge with a millstone around his neck on May 4, 304, during the time of Emperor Diocletian, because of his confession of Christianity. The executioner went blind, the waves washed the body onto a rock, an eagle protected him with outstretched wings that had the shape of a cross. The martyr appeared to a pious woman, Valeria, who recovered his body, brought it on an ox cart to the place that had appeared to her in a vision, where she secretly buried him. Beforehand, the thirsty draft animals had rested, and at the place of rest, a spring had broken open, which still flows today. Later, a church was built over this spring, which still bears witness to us today. In our modern time, many people come again and fetch the water. Believers also come from afar and fetch the water for baptism, especially when a child is baptized with the name Florian.
