Fischwanderhilfe Ottensheim-Wilhering

At the beginning of 2015, VERBUND started construction of Austria's longest fish bypass at the Ottensheim-Wilhering power plant: a 14.2 km long bypass arm was built via the Innbach-Aschach channel with a water supply adapted to the seasons from the Danube and from the natural runoff dynamics of the tributaries. This bypass channel best meets the high ecological and technical requirements for fish passability. In addition, a near-natural design of the structure with deep spots (pools), fords, and bays creates additional habitats for fish and other animals. The inflow structure is located on the right bank of the Danube, connected to the headwater of the Ottensheim-Wilhering power plant at river-km 2158.4. To ensure a water flow corresponding to the ecological conditions, it was equipped with a supply structure with lockable flaps. The bypass arm integrates sections of the Brandstätter Arm, the Aschach diversion channel, and the Innbach. Together with the module "Side arm headwater Abwinden-Asten power plant", a habitat network unique in this size and quality for the Danube in Austria is being created here. More info....
