A paradise for shore and trolling fishing for lake trout, char, chub, burbot, and perch. License conditions: Sport fishing on Lake Altaussee is only possible with a valid fishing license. The legal prerequisite for acquiring a fishing license is possession of a fishing booklet or a guest fishing card from the state of Styria. Children accompanied by adults and young people may fish exclusively from the shore at the stated prices. Violations and misuse will result in the forfeiture of the license. For young people and children up to 16 years of age who fish for perch, the Altaussee Fishing Association pays 0.07 Euro per perch delivered. Fish stock: Lake char, lake trout, perch, chub, burbot, sculpin, and minnows (Phoxinus phoxinus). The fishing card entitles the holder to fish with trolling gear or a fishing rod with exclusively one line or only one hook. Only barbless hooks may be used. Permitted baits: Natural baits, simple spinners, wet and dry flies with barbless hooks. Treble hooks are only permitted on spinners. If bait fish are used, only those from Lake Altaussee are allowed. Foreign fish must not enter the lake. All artificial baits are forbidden, especially wobblers, twisters, paternoster rigs, spinning floats, and all systems. The use of echo sounders, as well as jigging or dipping and attractants of any form and kind, is strictly forbidden. In case of violation, the immediate forfeiture of the license permanently and a fine of 75,- Euro will follow. Three pieces of sizable noble fish (char over 35 cm and trout over 50 cm) may be kept per day. The resale of the catch is strictly forbidden. If the daily catch quota is reached, fishing for noble fish must cease. Only chub and perch may continue to be fished. Sport fishing must be carried out in a sportsmanlike manner. Artificial baits, especially wobblers, twisters, paternoster rigs, spinning floats, and all systems, are forbidden. Undersized noble fish (char under 35 cm and trout under 50 cm) must be carefully removed from the hook and immediately returned to the lake. If an undersized noble fish cannot be returned due to severe injury, it must be killed in a sportsmanlike manner. Perch must be killed in any case. The fishing license exclusively entitles the holder to fish in Lake Altaussee - not in any streams or the Traun river. The following restricted areas must be observed: Seeklause between the flood barrier and the Seeklausbrücke bridge all year round. Sport fishermen are obliged to carry their fishing licenses. The control organs of the Fishing Association, identifiable by the oval plaque of the state of Styria, or in possession of a power of attorney from the Fishing Association, and the organs of the executive must be obeyed. The valid license must be presented upon request. The fishing gear, vehicles, boats, backpacks, and other containers used must be allowed to be inspected without objection. A minimum distance of 50 meters must be maintained from the fishing gear laid out by professional fishermen, which are marked by floats. Any damage caused must be reported immediately and compensated. Non-observance or violation of the regulations will result in a fine of 75,- Euro payable to the Altaussee Fishing Association, the confiscation and forfeiture of the fishing card, and an indefinite fishing ban, regardless of other administrative or criminal consequences.
