Filialkirche Radfeld zum Hl. Briktius

A first church demonstrably existed in Radfeld as early as 788. After this was probably still a wooden structure, it was replaced by a stone building in Romanesque times. Under master builder Gilg Sewer, a massive redesign of the church took place in the years 1484/90. Little more than the northern outer wall remained of the previous building.Essentially, the church still offers the late Gothic appearance today. On the exterior, however, the tower finial was renewed in 1721 and adapted to the then common Baroque formal language.Inside, the late Gothic spatial shell has remained more or less unchanged. Only the furnishings have been adapted several times to the respective taste of the time. The Baroque-inspired high altar owes its appearance to a rearrangement of actually unrelated components carried out in 1975/76. The center is formed by a painting by Christoph Anton Mayr, which shows Saint Briktius. The two accompanying figures are works by Johann Paterer.
