Ehrenberger Klause (1317) - Soon after the first mention of Ehrenberg, we learn about the Klause (fortified gorge) lying beneath it in 1317. In addition to its military function as a barrier, it also served as a customs post. A marble plaque on the north side commemorates that in 1609 Archduke Maximilian III, the Deutschmeister, had this Klause rebuilt and expanded. Two-thirds of the former Klause are now ruins, but excavations continue to reveal new secrets. The remaining part of the Klause, centrally located among 18 castles in Tyrol and the Allgäu, has housed a unique museum since July 2006.
