Fatima Peace and Memorial ChapelThe foundation stone for the Fatima Peace and Memorial Chapel was laid on May 22, 1955, in Bierbaum bei Gnas. How did the construction come about? The merchant Franz Kamper from Bierbaum bought a Fatima statue for a new chapel, in gratitude that his young son, who suffered from severe diabetes, remained alive. Franz Sommer took up the request, as he too was grateful to be alive. He thus fulfilled his vow that he made on the front in Normandy, because God heard his prayer and preserved him from death.Together with the Catholic rural youth and other benefactors, Franz Sommer erected the walls of the chapel. On the Feast of the Assumption of Mary in 1955, the first thanksgiving service could already be celebrated at the construction site. In the autumn of 1956, the dome cross was consecrated.
