ESV - WESENUFER

Waldkirchen, Upper Austria

The first continuous ice cover formation on the Danube in the winter of 1963/64, caused by the construction of the Aschach/D. Danube power plant, provided friends of Bavarian curling with an almost unlimited area for Bavarian curling. The founding of an Austria-wide ice sports organization according to international rules in 1970 prompted seven men from Wesenufer (Jan Feiken - the actual initiator, Hugo Selle, Siegfried Selle, Josef Königseder, Anton Leidinger, Felix Schütz and Roman Gruber) to set new accents in local Bavarian curling. They joined ESV St. Aegidi to learn the new guidelines of the increasingly popular sport there. In 1971, Union Wesenufer was expanded to include the Bavarian curling section. From this point on, they moved from the ice rink previously used in the courtyard of Gasthaus Auer to the property of innkeeper Königseder behind the Baumgartner brewery. In 1973, the time had come: The Bavarian curling section separated from the sports club for financial reasons and founded its own club, Eisschützenverein (ESV) Wesenufer, with 22 members and with the 1st board chairman Jan Feien, deputy Siegfried Selle, treasurer Hugo Dieplinger. After only nine years, the club reached a membership of 60 members. A floodlight system was installed so that Bavarian curling could also be enjoyed after work. Since then, annual club championships and open tournaments have been held.On August 3, 1990, a new asphalt sports facility with a club building was opened. On five asphalt lanes, Bavarian curling could now also be practiced in summer. In 1998, the facility was renovated and reduced to four lanes. The area had to make way for the Wesenufer - Ost settlement area in 1999. A new location was found in the immediate vicinity of the sports field area.Accessible via .....Linz - Eferding - Hartkirchen - Schlögener Schlinge - Wesenufer Rohrbach - Altenfelden - Hofkirchen i.M. - Niederranna - Wesenufer Passau - Engelhartszell - Wesenufer Schärding - Münzkirchen - St.Roman - St.Aegidi - Waldkirchen a.W. - Wesenufer Ried i.I. - Riedau - St.Willibald - Natternbach - Neukirchen a.W. - Waldkirchen a.W. - Wesenufer Wels - Grieskirchen - Waizenkirchen - St.Agatha - Waldkirchen a.W. - Wesenufer
