Günther Maierhofer has been involved with Riegersburg Castle since his childhood. At the age of ten, Maierhofer built a miniature replica of the castle. Four years later, he wrote a 1,700-page book about “his castle.” In 2005, he fulfilled his childhood dream and developed the “Riegersburg Adventure Tour,” an exclusive special program that guides guests through the “strongest fortress in Christendom.” Individual attention, hospitality, and expertise are the foundation of the project, which takes place independently with the permission of the castle owners. Initially met with skepticism, the tour quickly became an insider tip. “My goal was to create something far away from mass tourism!” says Maierhofer. The Guided Tours: 1) The Adventure Tour This tour starts in front of the picturesque parish church in the market town of Riegersburg, from there Günther Maierhofer leads you through Austria's most beautiful castle ascent – with interesting facts about the castle along the way up! In the second part of the tour, you will be guided through the magnificent castle rooms. Duration: 2 hours 2) Group Tour with Lift Ascent From the meeting point at the valley station, Günther Maierhofer will ride the panoramic lift directly up to the castle with you. Upstairs, he will guide you through the beautiful interiors of the fortress. Numerous exciting stories, passionately told at historical sites, will make your castle visit an unforgettable experience. Duration: 1 hour 3) Tours for School Classes For students of all ages, I offer individually customizable tour programs. These range from the classic, 45-minute tour through the castle to the exciting “Knight's Tour” with a guided legend hike through the castle grounds, a break at the new playground, and a subsequent castle tour.
