Erinnerungsort (Schauwohnung) Südtiroler Siedlung

In the middle of Reutte lies a piece of more recent contemporary history. In 1939, all inhabitants of South Tyrol were officially given the choice with the "Option": to remain in Italy or to change nationality and emigrate to the German Reich. Housing was needed for the South Tyrolean emigrants in their new homeland - thus a South Tyrolean settlement was also built in Reutte, which is still completely preserved. Numerous depictions were placed on the facades of the houses, which corresponded to the ideology of the time and are worth a tour. A show apartment, the "Erinnerungsort Südtiroler Siedlung" (South Tyrolean Settlement Memorial Site), can be visited by appointment and shows the living conditions of the first resettlers.
