Emailmuseum Gertrude Stöhr

Vorchdorf im Almtal, Upper Austria

ausstellungmuseumstour

It exclusively contains enamel and repoussé works by the Vorchdorf artist Gertrude Stöhr (born January 19, 1915, died August 30, 1984), who had her studio in Vienna and masterfully commanded various, often very difficult enamel techniques. Her precious, mostly sacred works can be found in many Austrian churches, but have also made their way all over the world, especially to the USA. 220 pictures, bowls, brooches, pendants, etc. are located in the Enamel Museum, which was set up by the artist herself.Enamel is a type of glass melt that is colored with various metal oxides. The colors are very intense and their luminosity is practically indefinitely stable. They can be applied to the metal base between metal ridges (cloisonné) in etched depressions (champlevé) or also painted (painted enamel). The enamel powder is briefly fired at 800° - 900°. Enamel can be opaque or transparent. Through the use of different types of enamel and techniques, very expressive pictures are created, often hard and high-contrast, but also soft and flowing.
