Drei Linden

Where the village road of Schwendau meets Lindenstraße, stand three old linden trees, under whose canopy a crucifix with a stone altar has been erected. A bronze plaque is attached to the stone, whose text reads: "Meeting place of the Zillertal people of the former Salzburg Urbaramt and the former Hauptmannschaft Schwendau (14th – 19th century)". As State Archive Director Hofrat Dr. Eduard Widmoser was able to determine based on extensive studies, this was the location of court hearings of the Schwendau Urbaramt and later the Hauptmannschaft. Here, disputes between the Urbarleute regarding their land ownership, e.g., due to unauthorized relocation of boundary markers, due to overbuilding, overfencing, overmowing, and "Übermaisen", i.e., exceeding one's own property when plowing, mowing, fencing, and harvesting wood, were negotiated by the bailiff.
