The Drachenhöhle (Dragon's Cave) is a prehistorically significant site. Through the impressive portal, one enters the mountain, located approximately 500 meters above Mixnitz on the western slope of the Röthelstein. As early as about 50,000 years ago, the Drachenhöhle was a refuge for humans from bears or wolves. Hike/Guided Tour: It's already a 1.5-hour hike to the official entrance of the cave. The increasingly steep path is worth it to get to know the origin of the "Legend of the Dragon." The cave received its name due to fossil bone finds of the extinct cave bear. Trained cave guides accompany tour participants through the cave, which is protected as a natural monument. It is one of the most important quarters for bats in Austria. For ecological reasons, a visit to the cave is only permitted as part of guided tours. Guided tours take place from May to October.
