Donatuskapelle

The listed Donatuskapelle in the vineyards of Neckenmarkt was built in 1735 under Abbot-Parish Priest Johannes Rohrer and is consecrated to Saint Donatus, the patron saint of vintners. Known as the "Weingartenkapelle" (vineyard chapel), it is picturesquely situated on the slope of the Ödenburger Gebirge. In 2015, it underwent extensive renovation. The current altarpiece by Karl Engel depicts the Ascension of Christ (1964); the original – damaged during World War II – hangs restored on the side wall. In 2022, the chapel was part of the ORF program 9 Plätze – 9 Schätze. The romantic chapel in the vineyards is a popular excursion destination and viewpoint, offering a breathtaking view far into the Pannonian Plain and, in clear weather, as far as Lake Neusiedl.
