Dekanatspfarrkirche zum Hl. Vitus

In the eighth century, monks built a "Celle" in what is now Unterau. In 1187, Zell was first mentioned as a parish. At the end of the 15th century, a Gothic church was built and consecrated in 1511. In 1772, construction of the current parish church began according to the plans of the Salzburg court architect Wolfgang Hagenauer. Master builder Andrä Hueber from Kitzbühel built the church. The tower still dates from the previous building. In 1779, the construction was completed and in 1782, the interior furnishings were finished. The painting of the church, including the imposing ceiling fresco, was done by the Brixen court painter Franz Anton Zeiller. However, the solemn church consecration did not take place until 1808. The Dekanatspfarrkirche zum Hl. Vitus is one of the most beautiful churches in our country.
