Burgruine Frauenburg

Time travel ...... The mighty Frauenburg castle ruins tower over the Murtal valley and invite travelers to linger from afar. While Frauenburg was once the favorite seat of the minnesinger Ulrich von Liechtenstein, many legends still surround this romantic place today, and the well-preserved inner courtyard bears witness to a bygone era.The Frauenburg, situated on a strategically favorable hill, was first mentioned in documents around 1260, but may have existed in another form long before it was inherited by the famous minnesinger Ulrich von Liechtenstein from his father Dietmar. According to legend, it once belonged to a knight Reinprecht, who, due to his violence, would be better described as a robber knight.In the 13th century, Ulrich von Liechtenstein built the residential tower (or palas), which still looks far into the land today, crowned with battlements, protected by a tent roof, and showing the Romanesque architectural style on the valley side with two round-arched windows and column capitals. This oldest part of the castle complex has been best preserved. Castle and church tours are available upon request. Registration and information at the municipal office.
