Grimmenstein Castle consists of a so-called hilltop castle on the Kulmriegel rock and a slope castle below it, and is located at an altitude of around 660 m above sea level. The castle dates from the 12th century, but its foundations and parts of the masonry are much older. After years of decay, it has been extensively renovated by the new lord of the castle, Markus Albero Grimmenstein, since 2014 and made accessible to the public. The lord of the castle himself, dressed in a traditional knight's costume, gladly leads tours through the rooms of the current museum castle. From the viewing terrace of the small castle tavern, visitors can enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Bucklige Welt while fortifying themselves with homemade pastries and drinks. The (heatable) castle can also be rented year-round as an event location for events, private celebrations, and children's birthdays.
