The mighty Forchtenstein Castle is the landmark of the Rosalia-Neufelder Seenplatte region; standing on a dolomite rock, it greets its guests from afar. It has been owned by the Esterhazy princes since 1626. It attracts well over 100,000 guests with its numerous exhibitions and events. The historic complex boasts one of the largest private weapon collections in Central Europe and also provides insight into the collecting passion of the first Prince Esterházy Paul. In the inner courtyard, the largest secco wall paintings north of the Alps surprise visitors with their sheer size. Visitors can choose between different guided tour options and are thus well served according to their interests. Particularly popular, in addition to the castle ticket with a guided tour, is the “Night Watch” (various dates), where Franciscus Fabiankovich, former castle captain in 1683, comes back to life for the night watch. Forchtenstein Castle is not only of great interest to history enthusiasts and museum lovers but is also very popular with families due to the numerous children's events that take place throughout the year. The “Family Draculade” and the “Dragon Festival” in autumn make Forchtenstein Castle an exciting experience for all ages. The Easter market, the chestnut festival, and the Advent market round off the offerings at the castle. The modern Café-Restaurant Grenadier invites guests to enjoy regional cuisine in an authentic ambiance. The terrace offers a magnificent view of the Wulka Valley all the way to Lake Neusiedl. Guided tours until the end of August (GERMAN) daily at 11:00, 13:00, and 16:00, additionally Friday to Sunday at 14:00. The Burgenland Card includes the castle ticket (without a guided tour). For an additional charge of €6.00, the guided tour can be booked.
