Festenburg Castle was built around 1200 by the Lords of Stubenberg. It was then called "Vöstenburg". The castle changed owners repeatedly over the centuries. The medieval "Vöstenburg" has belonged to Vorau Abbey since 1616. Around 1700, the defensive castle was converted into a monastery castle. The defensive tower was transformed into a church tower, the knight's hall was redesigned into a church and adorned with magnificent frescoes by the Vorau Abbey painter Hackhofer. Let yourself be enchanted by the over 800-year-old castle during a guided tour and visit the many magnificent and beautiful individual chapels in Festenburg.
