With the Blaufränkischweg, the existing but outdated 1st Burgenland Red Wine Educational Trail was redesigned and expanded into a circular hiking trail. The trail was equipped with 13 large and numerous smaller information boards on the topic of wine and a continuous guidance system. In addition, the rest area "bei der alten Presse" was newly adapted and a viewing staircase – the Blaufränkischblick – was created. The information boards describe the vegetation and work process of a vineyard year, provide information about the history, geography, and climate of the place, and especially highlight the importance of the Blaufränkisch grape variety for the municipality of Horitschon. Special attention is also paid to the Rieden (vineyards), historical peculiarities, and of course to the people behind the wine – the winemakers of the village. TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The Blaufränkischweg leads you through the best wine-growing areas of Horitschon. Learn what distinguishes Horitschon wines, enjoy the view and the exercise amidst the Hochäcker and Dürrau vineyards. The starting point of the Blaufränkischweg is the Vinothek Horitschon, which is housed in the oldest public building in Horitschon. Via Kirchenplatz, you reach the main road, which you follow for only a few meters to the cemetery. This is the actual beginning of the Blaufränkischweg, and here also begin the vineyards of the Hochäcker site. From here, simply follow the markings. At approximately 1.4 kilometers, you reach the rest area on the Dürrau vineyard. As part of a guided tour, wines are tasted here under expert guidance. From here, the path leads back through the Dürrau vineyard towards Horitschon. Shortly before the village, the path turns right, back to the starting point of your circular walk. Once again, you cross the Frauenbrunnbach, which separates the Dürrau and Hochäcker sites. After approximately 300 meters, you are back at Kirchplatz in front of the Vinothek. Here you can taste the Horitschon wines at your leisure and also take home all the wines of the Horitschon winemakers at ex-farm prices. GUIDANCE SYSTEM: The Blaufränkischweg is marked almost continuously. Simply follow the red “grapes” (dots). LENGTH: 2.2 kilometers WALKING TIME: 1.5 hours (as part of a guided educational trail hike with wine tasting approx. 2 hours)Guided tours with one of the local winemakers can be booked.
