The many museums of Admont Behind the venerable walls of the Benedictine Admont Abbey lies an impressive museum landscape. In addition to the world-famous Abbey Library – with around 60,000 historical books a true treasure and an unforgettable sight in person – there is much more to discover. Whether you explore all museums in one day or take your time for each one: A visit is always worthwhile. Every year, new exhibitions provide fresh impulses and once again make Admont a cultural focal point of the region. Diversity in museum form In the National Park area, you can listen to the sounds of nature or learn exciting things about Admont monks as naturalists. In the Natural History Museum, you follow in the footsteps of Father Gabriel Strobl, whose scientific passion continues to inspire today. In the Museum of Contemporary Art, you will find current art that enriches, inspires, and stimulates thought. And for those who love the classics, the art historical department on the ground floor features impressive sculptures, paintings, and textile artworks – from Romanesque to contemporary. As diverse as the Abbey itself is its museum: Here, everyone will find their personal point of interest. Exhibitions in 2026 After the anniversary is before the anniversary: In 2024, Admont Abbey celebrated its 950th anniversary, and in 1776 – 250 years ago – the Abbey Library was completed. For this occasion, a special focus on the Abbey's history will be on display in 2026. In the field of contemporary art, exciting new exhibitions also await you, keeping the work of the painter and thinker Hannes Schwarz alive and placing it in new contexts in dialogue with a second artistic position.
