Information: Municipal OfficeTel.: +43 (0) 72 60 / 45 05-11Wild animals... There are some interesting mammals in the area. For example, the rare Natterer's and barbastelle bats have been observed. These animals are endangered, among other things, due to a lack of suitable roosts. A visitor from South Bohemia and the Bohemian Forest is the lynx, whose presence has been proven by visual observations and kills. Along the Waldaist and Naarn rivers, the otter finds a suitable habitat, as it does in other near-natural waters of the Mühlviertel and Waldviertel. The encounter of these animals with humans is often conflict-ridden. Targeted educational work can counteract this and enable an undisturbed developmental dynamic of wild animal populations. Animals such as the raccoon, raccoon dog, and golden jackal are not native to our region and are often problematic, as they can unbalance the native ecosystem due to a lack of natural predators. In Waldhausen, it once happened that a poacher, who was actually sentenced to death, was still able to "get his head out of the noose." How that happened and what it all has to do with a gruesome giant snake is told in the Danube Saga.Waldhausen im Strudengau is located in a charming, gently rolling hilly landscape. The swimming lake, wheelchair-accessible hiking trails, wellness and cultural offerings make your holiday an unforgettable experience!DIRECTIONSArrival by car A1 from Salzburg:- Leave the motorway in Amstetten (exit West)- continue towards Grein (19 KM)- continue towards Sarmingstein (7 KM)- in Sarmingstein turn left towards Waldhausen (8 KM)Arrival by car A1 from Vienna:- Leave the motorway in Ybbs- continue through Ybbs towards Grein (22 KM)- in Sarmingstein turn right towards Waldhausen (8 KM)Arrival by train:Westbahnhof to St. Valentin, change to the DonauuferbahnWestbahnhof to Amstetten, change to the bus towards Grein, Waldhausen, Dorfstetten
