Bergkirche zum Hl. Martin

The current parish church, consecrated in 1680, was built on the foundations of a medieval church, of which today only a small Gothic opening on the outer staircase to the organ remains. The Baroque building is prominently situated on a fortified terrace high above the village and offers a fantastic panorama. The tower with an onion dome protrudes from the western gable front. The construction of the church dates from the mid-18th century. The altarpiece on the high altar depicts the Assumption of Saint Martin. The parish church of Donnerskirchen was originally brightly white colored and served as an important landmark for fishermen on Lake Neusiedl. Only during the last exterior renovation of St. Martin's Church did the Federal Monuments Office prescribe the color Schönbrunn yellow. Today, only the Croatian ("Bijela Crikva") and Hungarian ("Fertö-Fejeregyház") names of the village – translated into German as "Weißenkirche" (White Church) – recall the original color of the church.
