Bergbau- und Heimatmuseum - Knappenhaus Unterlaussa

Special exhibition on the upper floor: Vintage motorcycles from the region. After the extremely successful previous special exhibition, "Finds Tell Stories", by the Kalkalpen National Park, the "Mining and Local History Museum - Knappenhaus Unterlaussa" was able to create a new sensational exhibition. Vintage motorcycles from the region, at first glance, do not necessarily seem to fit the theme of a mining and local history museum, but on closer inspection, this special show reveals a close connection to the region. All motorcycles were, during their lifespan, owned by residents of Unterlaussa. Thus, these machines return, at least for a short time, to their old home. The motorcycle collector Christian Michtner from Admont has gathered these gems over years of passionate collecting and is showing them to the public for the first time. Puch, KTM, Horex, Ducati, and other brands are the names of the machines to be admired. As a supplement, Michtner also provides a part of his radio collection. These radios from old times accompany the road classics in a fitting manner. Special exhibition on the lower floor: Unterlaussa in word, picture, and sound. Unterlaussa belongs to the municipality of Weyer. The hamlets of Kessel, Platzl, Hausbauernhöhe, Sonndorf, Dörfl, Mooshöhe, Weißwasser, Oberlaussa, and Hengstpass are located along the Laussabach. A total of six hammer mills in the valley processed raw iron until 1872, which was transported from the Styrian Erzberg on rafts to the mouth of the Laussabach on the Enns. Individual hammer mills were in operation until the 20th century. But numerous other economic sectors such as forestry, numerous craft businesses, and agriculture were also an essential part of the history in the Laussatal. This everyday life and much more is shown in the newly created exhibition on the lower floor of the Knappenhaus. A part of the exhibition is dedicated to the great Unterlaussa native, OSR Director Kurt Redl. He was a crucial part of the social life in the village. Redl was the founder of the cross-state avalanche commission, the Culture and Sports Club Unterlaussa, he was the leader of an expedition to Spitsbergen, initiator of the Hochsurlift, and he introduced school ski courses for elementary school children in Unterlaussa. A student of Redl, the Austrian ski coach Karl Frehsner, conquered the ski world under the motto given by Redl, "only the will counts". Numerous social highlights from 3 decades are available on video on a large TV. Virtual Weißwasser. The outpost of the Knappenhaus Unterlaussa in the Reichraminger Hintergebirge. By means of Augmented Reality, the historically significant mining settlement of Weißwasser in the Reichraminger Hintergebirge (Kalkalpen National Park), which was razed in the 1960s, becomes virtually visible and experienceable again. This happens by means of Augmented Reality*(AR) via an APP on a mobile phone/tablet. Over a length of about 800 meters, visitors walk along the Hintergebirgsradweg and experience on the display of their mobile phone or tablet, on the left and right, the houses and barracks, the cable car station with the associated material cable car, as well as the infrastructural facilities of the settlement such as the locksmith's shop, carpentry, sawmill, and fire station garage. Information about the respective objects can, of course, be retrieved on the display. Please download the app before visiting Weißwasser, as there is no mobile phone reception on site.
