Schloss Halbturn - a cultural treasure on Lake Neusiedl. Schloss Halbturn, one of the most significant Baroque buildings in Burgenland, once served the imperial house as a hunting and summer residence. It was built in 1711 by Lucas von Hildebrandt, a master of Baroque architecture, under Emperor Charles VI. Later, through Maria Theresia, it came into the private possession of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. She gifted the castle to her favorite daughter Archduchess Marie-Christine for her wedding to Duke Albert-Casimir of Saxony-Teschen, the founder of the "Albertina" in Vienna. As a special gift, Maria Theresia commissioned the impressive ceiling fresco "Allegory of Time and Light" by Franz-Anton Maulbertsch in 1756. Many important personalities from Austria and Hungary shaped the history of the castle, which remains in private ownership to this day. Today, Schloss Halbturn, with its magnificent park, is a popular excursion destination and cultural center.
