In front of the town hall entrance stands a sculpture by Prof. Hans Mauracher, which commemorates an event during the war between Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus and Emperor Frederick III. When Hungarian troops marched against Fürstenfeld in 1480, the Emperor sent Croats as aid. On their way from Graz to Fürstenfeld, however, they visited wine cellars and got drunk. Most of them were slain by the Hungarians.
