Augenquelle

In 1055 AD, Count Palatine Poto discovered the healing spring during his escape, where he hid from his pursuers. We still use this refuge today – not from the enemy, but to escape everyday stress. People used the healing powers of this slightly radon and radium-containing thermal spring; the first bath is known since 1437. In the Middle Ages, this spring, which emerges from the ground with a spring temperature of about 36° Celsius, was called the "Augenquelle" (Eye Spring) because people washed their eyes with it to preserve their eyesight into old age. Also, eyes were often severely affected by strenuous work in the so-called Rauchkuchl (smoke kitchen) – the thermal water promised the necessary relief and healing. Even today, the thermal springs in Bad Kleinkirchheim supply the two public thermal baths (Thermal Römerbad and Therme St. Kathrein) as well as the thermal hotel Ronacher and the Thermenwelt Hotel Pulverer with the healing water. Many of our regular guests already know about the healing power of the Augenquelle and have personally experienced the effect of this special water. Therefore, their first stop after arrival often leads them to the Kathreinkirchlein and the Augenquelle.
