ASKÖ Huskies Wels

FROM 0 TO 2000 After the initial idea of six young people in February 2017 to play football, only about a month passed until the club was founded on March 30, 2017. Just two weeks later, on April 15, they were invited by the Steelsharks Traun to participate with them in a joint team in the youth classes in 9-man football U15 and U17. And so it was clear that these young people would participate in the championship in the very first year of the club's existence. From the beginning of May, the now 12 football-enthusiastic young people were coached by a Steelsharks Traun coach so that they would be prepared for the youth championships starting in early September. Looking at the results, one can say - with success. Both teams (U15 and U17) made it to the playoffs, reaching the semi-finals. After the successful youth championships, it was decided in September 2017 to hold a tryout for a senior team for the first time, in which 45 potential football players participated. The average training attendance could be increased from 20 to 28 players by the end of January 2018. Thus, a league entry from 2019 was decided. Since January 18, 2018, the Huskies Wels have been an official member of the AFBÖ (American Football Bund Österreich). To participate in league play, it was necessary to complete three qualification games in 2018. Two of these had to be played as home games. After discussions with the city of Wels and the Welser Heimstätte, we were provided with a new home on May 1, 2018, at the old FC Wels Stadium at Sauerbruchstraße 62, and it was officially handed over on June 11, 2018. We can definitely use our new home in Wels until and including the 2022 season. Immediately, the Huskies Wels, with the participation of all players, began the necessary renovation to be ready for the first home game on August 11, 2018. After the successful hosting of the qualification games, entry into the Austrian Football League – Division 4 was secured. In the first season of 2019 in the young club's history, the Huskies Wels finished the season in 3rd place in Conference A of Division 4, with an average attendance of 900. Due to the COVID-19 situation, the 2020 season was canceled. 2022 was the most successful year in the young club's history to date. The HUSKIES Wels made it to the Division 3 final undefeated. More than 2000 enthusiastic fans supported their team in the 2022 Challenge Bowl, which the Huskies won and will therefore play in Division 2 of the Austrian Football League from 2023.
