Antoniuskapelle

The Antoniuskapelle (Antonius Chapel) at Fratres stands on the southern slope of Fratres above Spittal an der Drau and is a Roman Catholic filial church of the Spittal parish, dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. The chapel was endowed in 1675 by the Ortenburg district judge Franz Grillenperger and his wife. A sacristy is attached to the east of the chapel, which features a polygonal choir and a bell frame, and a porch to the west. Inside, wall paintings from around 1771 on the barrel vault with lunettes depict scenes from the legend of Saint Anthony. The late Baroque altar, crafted around 1675, features an altarpiece from the second half of the 18th century depicting the apparition of the Madonna and Child to Saint Anthony. Further furnishings of the church include two wooden candlesticks from the first quarter of the 18th century and console figures of the Mother of God with Child and Saint Joseph with Child from the 18th century.
