Anich-Hueber-Museum

The municipality of Oberperfuss above Kematen is the hometown of the famous cartographer Peter Anich and his assistant Blasius Hueber. A small but fine museum in the Peter-Anich-Haus opposite the Hotel Krone provides information about the work and achievements of these two great sons of the small municipality in the Oberinntal. Peter Anich, born in 1723, constructed sundials at a young age. The Jesuit priest and university professor Ignaz von Weinhart recognized the talent of the young Peter Anich and became his mentor and patron. He taught him mathematics and geography and also involved him in the production of globes. Anich received the patent for the sole production of these "novel world spheres." Today, about 30 globes made by him still exist. Ignaz von Weinhart had also taught his students the art of surveying. He commissioned Anich and Blasius Hueber as his assistant to create a map of Tyrol. Anich himself made the instruments needed for the surveying. One of the two instruments exhibited in Oberperfuss could still be used today - especially in steep terrain. Due to the exceptionally high quality of his work, Peter Anich also received the commission to create a map of South Tyrol. However, near Bolzano, he and Hueber fell ill with swamp fever, from which Anich died at only 43 years old (1766). He was buried in an honorary grave in his home municipality of Oberperfuss. The great masters from the organ builder family Weber, Mathias and Franz, are also honored and are represented in the museum with their works. The curator and mayor Mag. Johanna Obojes Rubatscher will gladly personally assist you and give you insight into the work and achievements of the great sons of Oberperfuss.
