Ameisberg

The highest point of the Ameisberg (732 m), a rockfall on the south side that drops vertically by approx. 10 m, is called Hochholzstein by the local population and has been a popular excursion and hiking destination for generations for the residents of the surrounding region. From here, Kopfing literally lies at your feet. The view sweeps further over the Hausruck into the Alpine foothills towards the Eisenwurzen, to the Sengsengebirge, Traunstein, Höllengebirge, Schafberg, Untersberg and Watzmann. On particularly clear days, the majestic Alpine peaks such as Ötscher, Eisenerzer Alpen, Gesäuse, Totes Gebirge with Großer Priel, Dachstein, Tennengebirge, Hochkönig and Loferer Steinberge can also be seen. Due to its "scenic" location, this area may have served the Celts as a signal fire site. It is undisputed that the Celts already settled in this landscape – according to Tacitus – gruesome, disfigured by its forests and swamps. Numerous field and place names still in use in the area bear witness to this. About 200 m away from the Hochholzstein, now surrounded by high forest, lie some enormous, mystical and also mythical boulders. It cannot be ruled out that this place already served the Celts as a cult or sacrificial site. Allegedly, these stones radiate "positive energy" (quite "perceptible" by some visitors). Is this, in addition to the beautiful view, another reason for the attraction of this place? One always likes to visit a place where one feels comfortable. Especially in our hectic times, it simply feels good to "switch off" sometimes. The Ameisberg is certainly a particularly suitable place for this. This viewpoint is accessible via hiking trail no. 3 "Blick ins Land". Directions: Exit the A8 in Suben and continue to Schärding. Through the city to Sauwaldstraße B136 to the Simling-Kimleinsdorf turn-off. Here southwards until shortly before Kimleinsdorf. Parking: Wood loading area north of Kimleinsdorf.
