Altstadt Enns

Enns, Upper Austria

The houses in the Old Town mostly date from the 15th and 16th centuries, with impressive facades and idyllic inner courtyards. For the careful observer, lovingly preserved details in Gothic door and window frames, Renaissance sgraffito ornaments, magnificent Baroque stucco, and friezes from the Gründerzeit (founding era) are revealed. This creates the impression that Enns is a unique portrait of past stylistic epochs. Impressive are Ennsegg Castle and the towering, 60 m high, freestanding town tower from the 16th century in the middle of the main square. Historical sites such as the Museum Lauriacum - the Roman central museum or the Basilica St. Laurenz harmonize in a special way with modern city life. In the center of the "City of Turrets" rises the landmark of Enns: the freestanding town tower, which not only invites visitors to explore but is also the starting point for many discoveries! Autobahn A1 to exit Enns Ost, then left, at the roundabout take the 1st exit and then left again. Train: Enns Bahnhof stop - transfer points at Linz HBHf or St. Valentin Bahnhof.
