Rare plant beauties in Austria's highest Alpine garden: The 1.5-hectare area is located at 2,000 meters and is still easily accessible for children. The Alpine garden of the University of Innsbruck is located next to the mountain station of the Patscherkofelbahn and harbors true treasures of nature. Native Alpine plants such as edelweiss, gentian, and Platenigl thrive here, as well as plants from other mountain regions like the Himalayas. In June, the blooming Alpine roses (poisonous) cover the Patscherkofel with bright purple mats. The circular hiking trail reveals the diversity of alpine plant species from all over the world in just a few steps. The history of the Alpine garden dates back to the 1930s. It is a special place for many plants, because thanks to decades of fencing, much that has been displaced in the wild thrives here.
