A1 Hahnenkammbahn

Kitzbühel, Tyrol

In 1924, a commission was tasked with creating a cable car project for the Hahnenkamm. Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel was founded in 1928. One year later, the opening of the first Hahnenkammbahn was celebrated. This was an aerial tramway with 2 cabins for 18 people and had 9 supports. In 1938, the railway was completely rebuilt by the company Adolf Bleichert & Co. Afterwards, there were two gondolas, each for 48 people, which ran over only 3 supports. The capacity was 320 people/h. In 1958, the capacity was increased to 500 people/h with technical measures; the cabins remained. In 1996, a complete reconstruction took place again, with only the station buildings remaining. The aerial tramway was replaced by a modern monocable circulating ropeway with 6-person gondolas. In 2011, seat heating was also installed. At the valley station, one of the old gondolas was hung up as a museum piece.
