14-Nothelferkirche Anger

The branch and pilgrimage church of the 14 Holy Helpers in Anger is the most significant pilgrimage church in the upper Feistritz Valley. The building history of the church interior represents the highlights of the pilgrimage to this house of God. Gothic portals are reminiscent of the oldest part of the church, which was built around 1517 based on dating and is thus in line with Hofkirchen and Blaindorf. The choice of patronage clearly illustrates the worries and hardships of the population at that time – the 14 Holy Helpers offer, as it were, the widest possible range of spiritual helpers in all situations of life. On the old foundations, the nave was at least partially rebuilt in 1633. The striking bell tower followed in 1683 according to plans by Jakob Schmerlaib and has its almost equally old counterpart in the bell tower of the nearby parish church of Koglhof. Finally, the construction of the altar area in the form of a trefoil solution (cloverleaf floor plan) followed between 1714 and 1719 under the direction of the Pöllau master builder Remigius Horner. In the bell tower there are two bells, the larger one from 1687, cast by Adam Rostauscher in Graz, the smaller bell cast in 2007 by Grassmayr in Innsbruck. The extensive catalog of saints in this church thus shows the array of patron saints, which goes far beyond the already large circle of the 14 Holy Helpers. The early Baroque organ in the gallery was created in 1710 by Andreas Schwarz and stood in the parish church of Anger until 1740. The current work was installed in the magnificent casing in 1998 by Thomas Jann.
